I was hired into another dept, by a Director who was also a IEEE 802.3 Director, who's chip design team also had a detrimental issue with their chip design, and was at the verge of dismantled. I found the bug the 3rd day I was hired. It was the first PCI bus bug found. My starting salary in this Texas company in the early 1990s is the same as today's Virginia teachers' and County Boards'.
The VLIW Director spoke to me, but didn't hired me to solve the problem despite I was recommended by the IEEE802.3 Director and/or CEO. He was soon left the Texas company, joined Intel and started a VLIW chip architecture. Of course the same timing issue persist as it is inherit to VLIW architecture. The project was call McKinsey, Intel's early version of Server chip. And again didn't hired me, b/c this Director see me as a woman and a person of color, not my skills/qualifications.
This Director asked me what a "thread" is, in early 1990s in the Texas company. I explained to him. He asked me how did I know that. I said I had a book explaining just that. He asked me where did I get the book. I said in NYC 18th Street and Fifth Avenue (this was a well known bookstore amount college students back in the 1980s-1990s. Now closed). He then asked how did I know the bookstore. I said I grew up in NYC.
